Parliamentary Candidate Central Suffolk & North Ipswich Thank-you to the 1,593 people who voted for Martin and the Green Party |
| This has led to his more general interest in local production and distribution of food Before coming to Suffolk Martin spent most of his working life in agricultural research in Cambridge which involved working with farmers in this area. This was followed by some years as an academic in Switzerland where he was able to see how well the Swiss local food systems worked. Now with the help of his wife Ann, Martin is trying to put all of these ideas into practice, which includes selling the farm produce to local shops and pubs, and at Halesworth Produce Market. Arising out his farming research Martin is worried by the looming oil and energy crisis. He is interested in the development of alternative and local energy systems such as fuel wood, ground source heating, wind and hybrid cars. Martin is very enthusiastic about standing as the Green Party candidate in this election: He says Right now there is an urgent need to place climate change and social justice at the top of the political agenda. We must try to ensure that we and our descendants are able to survive peacefully on this amazing planet. |
