We oppose the application at the Howlett Way site

Trinity College Cambridge is seeking outline planning permission for the construction of over 300 dwellings at the Howlett Way site between Trimley St. Mary and Trimley St. Martin. Green Party policy is clear that local communities should have much more influence over the allocation of sites for large scale housing.

There's a clear democratic deficit in this case, in which even the applicant’s own consultation summary records almost entirely negative responses.

47 of the 50 public comments as of 22nd January 2023 were objections to the application. The Green Party also supports those opposing this development. This is consistent with our policy that all major new housing developments along the A14 corridor should be paused, pending a review of the housing need assessments on which the Local Plan is based. We have reviewed the many objections made by local residents, and consider many of these to be compelling. We object to the effective mergers of the two Trimley villages into one continuous urban area. If, despite the clear case against, it does go ahead, the Design Brief should include at least 50% affordable homes, and mandate rooftop solar and low carbon design standards.
